Dr. Mark Sedgwick is an associate professor of modern Middle East history at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, where he specializes in the history of Islam. He was born in London, England, and educated at Oxford University. He is the author of Sufism: The Essentials; Against the Modern World: Traditionalism and the Secret Intellectual History of the Twentieth Century; and Saints and Sons: The Making and Remaking of the Rashidi Ahmadi Sufi Order, 1799–2000; and has been translated into several languages.
