Joel Hirschhorn (December 18, 1938 – September 18, 2005) was awarded two Oscars for Best Song:  "The Morning After" and "We May Never Love Like This Again." He also was nominated for "Candle On the Water" from "Pete's Dragon" and the picture's score. Other awards include four Golden Globe nominations.

He received two Tony nominations for Best Broadway score. His stage adaptation of "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" was a hit on London's West End, and received over 3,000 productions and a national tour and London production. He wrote the lyrics to Charles Aznavour's one-man Broadway show. One song from the show, "The Old Fashioned Way," is an international standard with 300 recordings. (continues)

Hirschhorn has sold over 93 million records. Artists that have performed his material include Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Liza Minnelli, Maureen McGovern, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Mama Cass, Roy Orbison, blues legend Taj Mahal, Peggy Lee, Julian Lennon, Frankie Valli and James Ingram.

He has scored and orchestrated numerous prime-time specials, and has had his material spotlighted in such films as "The Rugrats Go Wild," "The Ice Storm," "Eyes Wide Shut," "Slums of Beverly Hills" and both versions of "Freaky Friday." Television shows include "South Park" and "The Simpsons."

Hirschhorn was a recording artist for RCA, and performed his material at the Troubadour, the Wadsworth Theatre, Civic Arts Plaza,The Tiffany Theatre and Town Hall. He wrote book, words and music for the award-winning "Musical Chairs." As journalist, Hirschhorn was West Coast theatre critic for Variety, and a book reviewer for Publisher's Weekly.
